Clinical Achievement | Department of surgery (Urology)

Today, our team successfully managed a challenging urological case involving a difficult airway and advanced surgical intervention. The anaesthetic management was led by Dr. Subeer Mukharji (HOD), along with Dr. Alok and the Anaesthesia Team, using an LMA for airway management. Under the expert guidance of Dr. Ankit Anand (Urologist), and with the dedicated support of Mr. Shubham Agnihotri (Senior OT Technician) and the OT Team, Supine PCNL along with Bilateral DJ Stenting was successfully performed for the first time at T.S. Mishra Hospital in the supine position. Key Steps of Supine PCNL: 1. Patient positioning and preparation in the supine position. 2. Percutaneous renal access under appropriate imaging guidance. 3. Guidewire placement and dilatation of the access tract. 4. Nephroscopic evaluation and stone fragmentation/removal. 5. Assessment of stone clearance and collecting system. 6. Bilateral DJ stent placement as planned. 7. Final checks and postoperative handover. This achievement highlights the importance of clinical expertise, advanced surgical techniques, effective teamwork, and seamless coordination between the Urology, Anaesthesia, and OT teams. Congratulations to the entire team on this significant milestone in advancing urological surgical services at T.S. Mishra Hospital.
